AS 5203:2016 Protection of openable windows/fall prevention- Test sequence and compliance method
7 TESTS
7.1 Pass criterion
The device or screen shall not permit a 125 mm sphere to pass through the window opening under specified loads and at the conclusion of the tests.
7.2 Fall prevention test
7.2.1 General
This Clause sets out the method for determining the resistance of a barrier screen to a specified level of forces and sized objects. For the purposes of this test, the long force test object may be substituted for the sphere. .
7.2.2 Procedure
The procedure shall be as follows:
(a) Attach the test specimen to the support frame.
(b) Open window to maximum opening and identify largest barrier protection area.
(c) Apply a 125 mm pressure plate to the centre of the openable barrier protection (see Figure 2) with a horizontal force of 250 N for a minimum of 5 s, while applying the 125 mm rigid sphere without force to any opening that may be present. The sphere shall not pass completely through any opening at any point of application. This step shall be repeated three times.
(d) Apply a 125 mm pressure plate 100 mm in from the bottom visible corner or the weakest part of an unsupported edge of the openable protection (see Figure 2), if applicable, with a horizontal force of 250 N, for a minimum of 5 s, while applying the 125 mm rigid sphere without force to any opening that may be present. The sphere shall not completely pass through any opening at any point of application. This step shall be repeated three times.
(e) When all applied forces have been removed, the 125 mm rigid sphere shall be applied to any opening that may be present. The sphere shall not completely pass through any opening at any point of application.
Any obvious dislodgment during and after the applied loads and 125 mm sphere passing that has an effect on the integrity of the test specimen shall be deemed to be a failure.
