3.3.8.8 Learning outcome 4
The welding inspection and testing learning outcome 4 is to supervise welding procedure qualification,welder qualification, production test welds and coordinate all necessary destructive testing and non-destructive examination (NDE) in accordance with the application standard or specification.
3.3.8.9 Assessment criteria outcome 4
The welding inspection and testing learning outcome 4 shall include:
(a) Conducting welding procedure qualification and welder qualification in accordance with the application standard or specification.
(b) Preparing test plates for destructive testing and NDE.
(c) Carrying out a series of destructive tests.
3.3.8.10 Learning outcome 5
The welding inspection and testing learning outcome 5 is to detail all required destructive tests and non-destructive examinations of welding-related work.
3.3.8.11 Assessment criteria outcome 5
The welding inspection and testing learning outcome 5 assessment criteria shall include, at appropriate stages, organizing all necessary destructive tests and non-destructive examinations of welding-related work and ensuring conformance to the application standard or specification.
3.3.8.12 Learning outcome 6
The welding inspection and testing learning outcome 6 is to explain proof tests as specified by the application standard.
3.3.8.13 Assessment criteria outcome 6
The welding inspection and testing learning outcome 6 assessment criteria shall include an explanation of hydrostatic proof tests in accordance with the relevant application standard or specification.
3.3.8.14 Learning outcome 7
The welding inspection and testing learning outcome 7 is to prepare clear and concise records of welding procedure specifications, welding procedure qualification tests, welder qualification tests, production test welds and other related documents.
3.3.8.15 Assessment criteria outcome 7
The welding inspection and testing learning outcome 7 assessment criteria shall include the preparation and completion of documentation for welding procedure specifications and welding procedure qualification tests, welder performance qualification tests and production test welds and ensure correct recording of documentation.
3.3.9.1 Content
The basic metallurgy content shall cover:
(a) A basic knowledge of the classification of carbon and alloy steels.
(b) An understanding of the general structure of ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
(c) Effects of fatigue, intergranular and stress corrosion.
(d) Factors affecting weldability.
(e) Heat treatment including normalizing, annealing, quenching, stress relieving, tempering, pre-heating as specified in AS ISO 13916, and post-weld heat treatment.
(f) The composition and mechanical properties of carbon and low-alloy steels.
