AS 2688:2017 Timber and composite doors
6.1.1 General
Door leaves shall be stored flat in a clean dry area away from the damaging effects of dust, dirt, dampness, free water, direct sunlight, and the weather. During installation, the door leaves shall be protected from building fallout such as wet plaster, mortar, paint and the like.
NOTE: Timber door frames may be affected by corrosive salts migrating from masonry construction and from the ground. Where necessary, care should be taken by the use of damp courses or other protective measures to eliminate this corrosive cause.
6.1.2 Stacking
Door leaves shall be stored flat on equal sized packing board in a dry, well-ventilated area out of direct sunlight
NOTE: Before being fitted into their door frames or jamb linings, doors should be conditioned, as far as practicable, to the conditions prevailing in the building to avoid subsequent excessive swelling, shrinkage or movement.
6.2.2 Sealing
Doors shall be sealed on all faces and edges in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications (see Clause 3.4).
NOTES: 1 Timber and most timber products or other porous materials are generally hydroscopic and dimensionally influenced by changes in moisture content caused by changes within their surrounding environment. Therefore, it is necessary to adequately seal all surfaces and edges of the door, to prevent absorption or loss of moisture (see Clause 3.4.2).
2 It is necessary to maintain an ongoing adequate paint protection as specified by the paint manufacturer’s to prevent deterioration of the door.
6.3 MAINTENANCE
Doorset components shall be maintained in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications.
All seals, fittings and tracks shall not be painted and shall be cleaned of any debris on a regular basis.
All fittings shall be kept clean at all times.
Repainting of frames and doors shall be in accordance with the paint manufacturer’s specifications.
7.1 INSTALLATION CRITERIA
The following criteria apply to the installation of doorsets:
(a) Openings in buildings into which doorsets are to be installed shall be of sufficient size to allow the door frame to be installed correctly.
(b) Doors and frames shall be installed plumb, square, level and in wind.
(c) Doors and frames shall be fixed using recognized building practices. Fixing shall not deform the doors or frames.
NOTE: The manner of fixing will vary according to the type of surrounding structure and the location.
(d) Unless specified, doors shall not be loadbearing.
NOTE: Doorset manufacturers’ installation procedures may need to be followed for proprietary installations.
