AS 1682.2:2015 Australian Standard Fire, smoke and air dampers
7.2 Mechanical and intumescent fire dampers
Dampers shall be cleaned of debris from the construction process prior to commencing commissioning. Where construction continues after dampers have been initially commissioned, dampers shall be inspected again, debris removed and operation checked.
Commissioning procedure for fire damper installations shall be as follows:
(a) Check for damage and repair or replace as required.
(b) Check whether the damper label, in accordance with AS 1682.1, is fitted.
(c) Check whether the type of construction in which the fire damper is installed is identical to the tested prototype or whether the type of construction, in the opinion of the testing authority, would have achieved the listed FRL if so tested, and in the applicable separating element in question.
(d) Check that there is a clear breakaway joint. Refer to Appendix C.
(e) Check the damper orientation against that marked on the label.
(f) Check whether the damper is installed in a fully open position unless certified otherwise.
(g) Check the damper installation with respect to the direction of air flow marked on the label.
(h) Check whether the clearance between the damper and penetration is as specified in the manufacturer’s installation instructions.
(i) Check to ensure that the damper closure is not impeded.
(j) Except in the case of an intumescent fire damper, check that the damper assumes a fully closed position when released.
7.3 Smoke dampers
Dampers shall be cleaned of debris from the construction process prior to commencing commissioning. Where construction continues after dampers have been initially commissioned, dampers shall be inspected again, debris removed and operation checked.
Commissioning procedure for smoke damper installations shall be as follows:
